Steve was the third of five children of Donald Richard EGENDOERFER (1928–2017) and Naomi WILLIAMS (1927–2012). Steve graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1968, joined the U.S. Marine Corps, served in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1970. On October 3, 1970, he married Patricia Anna HOUSTON in Christ the King Catholic Church; a daughter and son were born to the union. He completed an apprentice program with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and, for 43 years, Steve was an electrician with IBEW Local 153. Steve's wife, Patricia, died in October 2023. Steve was survived by their daughter and son, their two grandchildren, his three brothers, and his sister.
