Maye was the daughter of John Wesley Shipps and Mary Bell Heisler Shipps. before Maye married, she and her elder sister, Florence Shipps were fortunate to belong to the Missouri Military Band, and in 1913, they went with their band to Washington D.C. where they marched in a women's sufferage parade. Maye played the slide trombone and Her sister played the bass horn...it was exciting time the two sisters. the Parade took place March3, 1913, going down Pennsylvania ave. Maye married Fay Mills corrough March 27, 1919 when he came back from WW1.. they had two children, Donald and Shirley.

MARYVILLE, Mo. ---- Vera M. Corrough, 96, Maryville died Sunday, Nov. 12, 1989, at a health-care center here.

Mrs. Corrough was a native and lifelong resident of Nodaway County, Mo. She was a graduate of Maryville Conservatory of Music, and had taught piano.

She was a member of the Maryville First United Church; VFW Auxiliary; World War I Barracks Auxiliary; Charter member of the Merry Matrons Extension Club; and the Honorary member of the AAUW.

On March 27, 1919, at Maryville, she married the former, Fay Mills Corrough. He preceded her in death on May 13, 1971. She was also preceded in death by a grandson.

Survivng: a son, Donald of Maryville; a daughter, Shirley Lusk of Harrisonville, Mo.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Maryville First United Methodist Church. Burial, Miriam Cemetery, Maryville. Visitation: 7 to 8 tonight at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.
