Born Vincenzo Gauci in Valletta, Malta, on December 27, 1920, Monsignor Redent M. Gauci was ordained presbyter through the Order of the Carmelite Friars on August 1, 1943, by Msgr. Emanuele Galea, and was one of the first four Carmelites who formed part of the first community of Fgura - which would later became a parish church in 1965 - together with Friars Tarcisio Licari, Giovanni Caruana and Brother Romeo Bezzina.

Together with Friar Ignatius Axisa OC., he left Malta for Peru on June 6, 1949, becoming therefore the first Maltese Carmelite missionaries in the named Latin American country. They arrived in Peru on August 2, 1949, being followed by Friars Edward Bezzina and Seraphin Abela.

Aged 41, Gauci was named as the First Prelate of the Territorial Prelature of Chuquibamba, under the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Arequipa, on June 5, 1962. Composed of four major provinces, spanning over 20,000 square kilometres, Chuquibamba was about 65 times bigger than the size of Gauci's native Malta.

Gauci was appointed Bishop of the Titular See of Ida in Mauretania and received his episcopal consecration at the age of 46, on April 30, 1967, at Saint John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta, Malta from Archbishop Michael Gonzi, assisted by Bishops Donal Raymond Lamont O. Carm., and Emanuele Galea.

Resigning the Prelature of Chuquibamba at the age of 56, in February 1977, due to health reasons and moved to his native island of Malta, where he passed away on February 10, 1978 at the Blue Sisters Hospital, aged 57, a couple of hours before he was to deliver the panygeric at the Collegiate of Saint Paul's Shipwreck, Valletta.
