Cathryn Irene Collins was the daughter of Newton Thomas Collins and Jimmie Gertrude Carpenter Collins. Cathryn first married Lee Roy Bennett and they had five children. She married second, Frank Grimes.

OBIT from Mail Tribune, Medford, Oregan: Cathryn Irene Collins Bennett Grimes, 83, of Medford, died very peacefully Wed. Nov. 16, 2005 at her home with her loving family by her side. At her request no service is planned.

Cathryn was born on Dec. 30, 1921 in Grenada, Mississippi, to Newton T. Collins and Jimmie G. (Carpenter) Collins. She was the seventh child in a family of 10. She moved to Ashland in 1949 and had lived in Medford since 1968.

She worked for Gressetts Drive-in Cleaners for 20 years. She was an accomplished seamstress who made uniforms, wedding dresses, and clothing for many customers. Cathryn enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and sewed as a hobby, giving projects to friends and family.

Survivors include her five children and their spouses, Ginger and Ernie Horton of Clackamas, OR, Roy and Linda Bennett of Vancouver, WA, Bobbye and Art Deckard of Vancouver, WA; May & Darrell Plankenhorn of Phoenix, OR, Betty and Larry Johnson of Medford; a sister, Fannie M. Veazey of Grenada, MS; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, including James Jones of Terry, MS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, LeRoy Bennett; her second husband, Frank Grimes; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; and eight of her siblings.

She leaves many cherished memories of her unselfish love and giving support to her family and friends. A special thanks to all the loving care givers from Asante Hospice Services that enabled her to remain at home.

She was a special, wife, mom, grandma, sister, and aunt who was loved by everyone that knew her, she will be greatly missed.

NOTE: Cathryn's body was cremated, but a memorial was created for her at this cemetery where other family members are buried.
