Dr. Harvey "Dick" Scott III 57, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008, near Siena, Italy. He was born June 30, 1950, in Chicago, the son of Dr. Harvey D. and Audrey Grone Scott, II.

He is survived by two sons, Tim Scott of Meredosia and Dan Scott of Jacksonville; and two brothers, Tom (wife, Jenny) Scott of Batavia and James (wife, Donna) Scott of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dr. Scott was a 1968 graduate of Jacksonville High School, where he excelled in football and academics. He completed his undergraduate studies at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, where he played rugby and graduated cum laude. He chose to follow in his father's footsteps and pursue a career in medicine, and enrolled at Northwestern University Medical School in the fall of 1972. He completed his studies in June of 1976 and finished his residency at the University hospital in 1981. Dr. Scott joined the staff of Passavant Hospital on July 1, 1981. Since that time, he has served on the Passavant Hospital Board of Directors, Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Passavant, Chairman of the Tissue Committee, and Secretary of the Medical Staff.

He has also served as President of the Morgan-Scott Medical Society. His professional memberships include Diplomat American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Fellow American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Fellow American College of Surgeons, American Medical Society, Illinois State Medical Society, Central Illinois Orthopaedic Society, Illinois Orthopaedic Society, and Mid-American Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Scott was a longtime member and former elder of First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Board of Trustees at Illinois College and the Board of Directors of Jacksonville Savings Bank and Financial Resources Group. He was an avid supporter of the Illinois College Fine Arts Series and the Jacksonville Art Association, and volunteered in the overseeing of Liberty Cemetery.

He was proud to have participated in the 2006 In His Service mission trip to Haiti. He was recognized by the Jacksonville High School football team in 2002 for twenty years of dedicated volunteer service to the team, and was recipient of the Jacksonville Journal-Courier Reader's Choice Award for Best Physician. In his free time, Dr. Scott enjoyed bicycling and traveling. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Services were entrusted to Williamson Funeral Home of Jacksonville, Illinois.
