The birth date above is derived by subtracting age-at-death on his marker from his death date in the order days, months, years. By subtracting in the order years, months, days, one derives a birth date two days later.

Father: Joshua Hillard
Mother: Esther Burgess
1st Wife: Polly Wilson
2nd Wife: Lydia Goodwin Ford Hillard
Married: April 13, 1795, Claremont, Sullivan County, New Hampshire

He was a descendant of Mayflower Pilgrims John Alden and Priscilla Mullins (Lynn E. Garn, "The Descendants of Richmond A. Hillard, A John Alden Line," in the Mayflower Descendant, 57: 125 Summer 2008). That article also documents several generations of Richmond's descendants and is currently available by clicking here.

Richmond and his wife Lydia had two sets of twins, Sophia Marietta Hillard and Hiram Alonzo Hillard, born in 1807, and Thomas Jefferson Hillard and James Madison Hillard, born in 1809. Links below point to the memorials of the three sons who were twins. We have not found a grave marker for their daughter Sophia Marietta Hillard, who married Isaiah G. Harris in Champaign Co., Ohio, in 1828. In the 1840 census and on censuses thereafter, Sophia appeared on the census and the head of the household. At some point she moved to Wilton Twp., Will Co., Illinois.

In addition to the children listed in the links below and Sophia, discussed above, Richmond and Lydia also had a daughter Eunice Ford Hillard, who was born on 14 May 1796 in Cornish, NH. These names and relationships are reported in the Cornish Town Records. Other records establish that Eunice Ford Hillard married James Smith. In 1850 Eunice's mother appeared on the census in their household in Miller Twp., Knox Co., Ohio. James and Eunice (Hillard) Smith were probably buried in the same cemetery as her parents. However, we have not found grave markers for them.
