PIKEVILLE -- Richard David "R.D." Pate, 83, 103 S.E. Railroad St., died this morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Pate was born in Wayne County to the late Adli Lee Pate Sr. and Edith Jones Pate. He was married to the late Ida Ruth Bartlett Pate. Mr. Pate owned and operated Pates' Service Station in Pikeville. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Bryan Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in Pikeville Cemetery.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori Pate of Pikeville; his son, Richard Lee Pate of Fremont; and his brother, A. Lee Pate and wife, Shirley, of Pikeville. He is also survived by his special friends and caregivers, Helen Aycock, Ginny Weeks, and William Earl Williams.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Edna Knight and Frances Outland and his brother, Wilbert Pate.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to St. Joseph United Methodist Church, 202 W. Church Street, Pikeville, 27863.

The family will gather Thursday in St. Joseph United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall to greet family and friends from 1 to 2 p.m.

Arrangements are with Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Goldsboro.
