Civil War veteran who was a member of the Washington Light Infantry as a member of the 1st South Carolina Battalion (Gaillard's) Company B. After the war he became editor of the Charleston newspaper "Charleston Courier".

Simons was a signer of the Ordnance of Secession as well as being a graduate of the class of 1849 of Yale.

Thomas and Anne had twenty two children.
