Anna Belle Claxton, daughter of Alfred Virgle and Amy Idelia (Royster) Emmerson, was born November 7, 1923, near St. George, Missouri. She departed this life, Thursday, November 17, 2011, in Hartville Care Center, in Hartville, Missouri at the age of eighty-eight years and ten days.
On May 1, 1942, she was united in marriage to Woodrow Claxton, who preceded her in death in May of 1978.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, Kent; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Delvin and Aline Emmerson, Clifford and Katherine Emmerson; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Iva and Amos Curtis, and Chlorienne and Walter Curtis; and a niece Karen Curtis.
Anna Belle is survived by her daughter-in-law, Kathy Claxton of Hartville, MO; two grandsons, Jason Claxton and his wife, Emily, of Nixa, MO, and Jared Claxton of Branson, MO; nieces and nephews, including Radell and Judy Emmerson, of Mountain Grove, MO, Dixie and Harley Blevins, of Springfield, MO, Dr. Carl and Linda Claxton, of Springfield, MO, Christine and Forrest Reed, of Joplin, MO, Elma Jo and Dean Skinner, Semi Valley, CA, Gordon Emmerson, of Australia, Lynn Curtis, Brent Curtis, Junior Curtis, and Selma Pagac; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Born on the family farm, she attended the Cope School and then the Hartville High School where she graduated from. After she and Woodrow were married they moved to Camdenton for a short time and then to Mountain Grove. They purchased the farm on Elk Creek and through the years she worked along side her husband and was a loving homemaker to her family. In later years she resided in Mountain Grove until moving to Hartville.
Anna Belle had professed her faith in Christ and was a member of the Pleasant Grove (Cope) Freewill Baptist Church and later attended the First Freewill Baptist Church in Mountain Grove, where she enjoyed her church fellowship. She centered her life around her family. Her care, concern and love for them were always evident.
Her smile lit the room and her keen sense of humor and wit always brought a laugh to folks. She was an avid reader and enjoyed going fishing in her spare time.
Anna Belle was a devoted and loving wife, mother and mother-in-law; was a cherished grandmother; a treasured sister and aunt; and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and cherish the memories she created for her family and many friends. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed but will live on in our hearts forever.
Services for Mrs Claxton will be Sunday afternoon November 20, 2011.
Visitation at 1:00 PM with Funeral at 2:00 PM in Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Hartville, Missouri.
Burial will be in Claxton Cemetery North of Hartville.
