He was a member of the Terra Alta Baptist Church. He graduated from Terra Alta High School, class of 1941. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he served in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska.
He was a meat cutter for over 60 years and retired from Giant Foods in Springfield, Va. He was a life member of the VFW Post 578, American Legion, Oakland, Terra Alta Moose Lodge and the Oakland Elks 2481.
He was a son of the late Albert Daniel and Nell Grace Naylor Benson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine Stemple and Louise Sanders.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie; a daughter; a sister; two grandchildren; five step children; two step grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
