Missouri Death Certificate

Leo Zettwoch was born and raised in the Black Forrest region of Germany, a town named Urloffen famous for it's horseradish. He immigrated to America following his (half) brother Rudolph. Later, brother Gustav and two sisters, Louisa and Marie Antoinette also made the trip. Several siblings remained in Urloffen. Leo became a butcher, possibly working for Daniel Glock where he would have met Katherine Schaefer. They married in 1877 and had eight daughters. The only boy born to the couple died at childbirth.

Leo was a dapper dresser. He was a demanding man, insisting his wife and later his daughters see to his needs. He was active in the church at St Boniface, walking to mass every Sunday on the opposite side of the street than the rest of his family. Leo survived his wife by many years but never married again.
