He married Martha J Tharp, who converted her entire family to the Baptist Church. They had several daughters and a son.
A few of Walter's descendants still live in Tennessee and many of them live in Texas, and some in California.

Walter's sister: Delpha Mae Brown born Sept 8, 1899, married Harv Turnbow. They are both buried in north GA, near Chattanooga.
