Edwin James McCormick passed away, unexpectedly, on Saturday April 19, 2024 surrounded by his family after a stay in the hospital for pneumonia.

Edwin was born in Miles City, MT to Edward and Elsie McCormick. The 2nd of their 3 children, he remained in Montana until the age of 4 but then moved to Seattle in 1952 where he spent the formative years of his young life.

Edwin graduated from Blanchet High School in 1966, served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and then graduated from the University of Washington in 1972. Around the same time, Edwin began working for the United Parcel Service where he remained for 35 years. His career at UPS would eventually take him and his family from Seattle to Sacramento, CA; Mechanicsburg, PA; Winter Springs, FL and finally to Alpharetta, GA. He was the consummate provider for his family throughout his entire adult life, enjoyed being with his family and friends and he was a passionate sports fan of the Huskies, Seahawks and most any team from Seattle. Edwin also had the great pleasure and honor of working on an executive board helping to organize the 1996 Special Olympics in Atlanta, GA. This touched him immensely and was something that carried on in his memories right up until his final days.

Edwin married his high school sweetheart, Mary Kathryn McCormick (Mickey), in September of 1969 and they went on to have two sons together. In 1976, they all left Seattle to embark on Ed's growing career at UPS but in their retirement, Ed and Mickey were able to relocate back to the state of Washington where they spent over a decade living on Whidbey Island. This had been a lifelong dream of theirs. Ultimately Mickey and Ed decided in 2018 to move to Tallahassee to finish out their years on the east coast again in order to be closer to their sons and grandchildren. Over his lifetime, Edwin created incredibly strong friendships with so many people around the country. His sense of humor was unmatched and he loved to laugh and to make people laugh. He was the life of the party for most of his life and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Edwin is survived by his two sons and daughters in law of Danville, NH and Tallahassee, FL, 6 grandchildren; two brothers and their wives of Everett, WA and Surprise, AZ; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. In addition he is survived by his beloved Golden Retriever, Bailey of Tallahassee, FL. Edwin was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mickey and his parents, Edward and Elsie.

Edwin and Mickey's wishes were to have their ashes returned for a final resting place on Whidbey Island in Washington where there will be a private ceremony and celebration of life held for friends and family on a date and location to be determined this summer.

In lieu of flowers for the family, please consider making a donation in Edwin's name to the Special Olympics organization.
