Hugh served as a Private in the Infantry, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Chemung County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on September 27, 1944 in Binghamton, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Married.

He was "Killed In Action" in Germany during the war.

He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on November 10, 1947.

Pvt. Hugh R. Allen Jr. Gives Life in Action

Pvt. Hugh R. Allen Jr., 23, husband of Mrs. Dorothy Staples Allen, 322 Bonaview Ave., and son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Allen, 536 B1oadway, was killed in action with the First Army in Germany Mar. 15, his family has been notified. An infantryman, he had been overseas one month.

Pvt. Allen was employed by the Norden Co. and Remington Rand Inc., before entering the service last September. He attended School 9 and graduated from Southside High School. He was a well-known local baseball player. He leaves a daughter, Carol Ann, three years, and a son,
Robert Francis, seven months.
