Charlene passed away peacefully at her family's home Sunday, February 3, 2008.

Charlene was a member of the Lummi Nation. A lifetime resident of Bellingham/Ferndale area where she graduated from Ferndale High School. She worked for the Lummi Indian Health Clinic-CHR Program. She was also a fisherwoman, fishing with her brothers as often as she could.

Charlene was a canoe paddler on Lummi's Setting Sun canoe team. She loved being out on the beaches, beach-combing.

Charlene was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Aurelia (Balch) Celestine; grandmothers, Sadie (Celestine) Jones and Anna (Solomon) Ballew; great-grandfather, Francis Celestine; grandfathers, Alfred Lane, Matthew Jones, and Casimir Ballew; and nephew, Levi Jefferson, Jr.

Charlene is survived by her loving children, Robert, Charlie and Tonya Teton; parents, Wayne and Rena Ballew; sisters, Karen Williams, Jacqueline Ballew and Aletha Ballew; brothers, Levi Jefferson, Wayne Ballew Jr., Casimir Ballew and Matthew Ballew; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She will be remembered for her kind, gentle, shy way she had about her. Charlene will be greatly missed by us all.

Final place of rest; Lummi Cemetery, where she will be met and be welcomed by her ancestors.

What ever is in our past, what ever we have done…what ever it is, we need to know that God was standing at the window and He saw the whole thing. He has seen our whole life. He wants us to know that He loves us, and that we are forgiven. It is by God's grace and mercy that we are saved.
