He was born into a family of nine siblings at the family Plantation home "Sand Hills," later renamed "Laurelwood" in Eastover (Richland County) S. C. He began his career with the South Carolina and Georgia Railroad Company in Columbia, SC. In 1902 he relocated to Hattiesburg, Mississippi as chief dispatcher for the Gulf and Ship Island Railroad and served Gulf and Ship Island and Southern railroads continuously for 31 years, retiring in 1933. In 1906 he married a young widow, Mary Lenore McInnis Lance. He was the father of Pressley McLeod Seay, Jr., Clanton McInnis Jones Seay as well as his step-son Kenneth Lance. He was the well loved grandfather of six grandchildren.
