Debbie Ann Neal Stueckle Matthews, 44, of Kent, died Friday, July 24, 1998, at her home.

Debbie was born on Sunday, Dec. 6, 1953, in Wenatchee, Wash., to Bill and Nancy Neal. She was the fourth child, with brothers, Dennis and Steve, and sister, Linda. Debbie grew up and attended schools in East Wenatchee: Rock Island Elementary, Sterling Junior High and Eastmont High School (1972). She was active in sports and school activities, serving as senior class treasurer.

While in elementary school, Debbie gave her heart to God and became a member of the Wenatchee Nazarene Church. While in high school, she was sanctified and baptized. Debbie received her BA from Northwest Nazarene College (1976) and her MA from Seattle Pacific University (1990). She married in 1974 and in 1981 had a beautiful little girl, Ann Katrina Stueckle. In 1990, she married Edker Matthews, principal at Grass Lake Elementary in Kent. Debbie taught third grade in Meridian, Idaho; as a home educator for Head Start in Everett, Wash.; and in Kent at Kent View Christian School, Fairwood Elementary, O'Brien Elementary, Spring Glen Elementary and Glenridge Elementary.

Debbie enjoyed the mountains, skiing, reading, teaching, gardening, volunteering for the American Cancer Society, cooking, decorating, traveling, crafts and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the Kent First Church of the Nazarene.

Debbie was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis W. Neal.

Debbie is survived by her parents, Bill and Nancy Neal of Selah, Wash.; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and David Smith of Selah, Wash.; a niece and nephew, Shay and Neal Smith of Selah, Wash.; a brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Louise Neal of Overland Park, Kan.; a grandmother, Zelma Kizer of Selah, Wash.; her husband, Edker Matthews of Kent, Wash.; a daughter, Ann Katrina Stueckle of Kent, Wash.; and a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Jim Davies of Kent, Wash.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, July 28, 1998, at 11:30 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park, East Wenatchee. A memorial celebration will be Wednesday, July 29, 1998, at 11 a.m. at Kent First Church of the Nazarene. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations or gifts of childrens' books may be made to the "Debbie Matthews Memorial Library" Glenridge Elementary, 19405 120th Ave. S.E., Renton, Wash. 98058 or to the American Cancer Society.
