She was the daughter of Daniel N. Hicks & Mary Ann (Thrasher) Hicks. Her mother died when Mary Ann was 12 years old.
She married Bennett Easterling about 1854 at Carrollton, Pickens Co., AL. They were farmers and had seven children.
They left Alabama for Bell Co., TX in 1870 to be near her sister and family. When they got to the Trinity river the river was on the rise so they stopped and purchased a 136 acre farm near Athens, Henderson Co., TX.
Bennett and two of their sons died of malaria in 1874.
She sold the farm, loaded her children in a wagon and went to Bell county where she purchased a 45 acre farm on Cottonwood Creek. Their daughter, Carrie Donia died in 1888 and Mary Ann raised Ester, her grand-daughter. Her children were left an inheritance when she died. She was a remarkable woman.
