OBITUARY: JAMES MARTIN
_______________________

James Martin, eldest son of William Martin and Jane Harvey was born at Bangor, County Down, Ireland, Aug. 29, 1841 and departed this life Sabbath March 10, 1918, at 2:15 p.m. at his home in Mt. Clare, Neb., aged 76 years 6 months and nine days.

He came to Des Moines county, Iowa, in 1870, where he lived until 1882 and since that time has spent his life in Nuckolls county, Nebr.

On November 29, 1873 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Shaw. To this union was born nine children: Robert, William, Mary, Mrs. Merrill Nash, Mrs. Fred Nash, Hugh, Mrs. Dave Mearns, Della, who died in infancy, and Mrs. Rose Elizabeth Hedrick Grotberg (updated to reflect her second marriage, after her brief first one ended in a tragic farming accident)

He also leaves to mourn his loss fifteen grandchildren, a brother, H.H. Martin of Mediapolis, Iowa, and two sisters, Mrs. Chas, Childress of Superior, Nebr. and Mrs. John Martin of Bostwick, Nebr.

His wife preceded him in death five years ago, Feb. 4, 1913.

James Martin united with the Reformed Presbyterian Church at Sharon, Iowa, in 1873 and in 1882 became a member of Beulah congregation.

His last words were: "I am with the Lord." After a short service at the home in Mt. Clare, the funeral took place at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Beulah Church, Rev. Mitchell and Rev. Allen each giving address. There was a large attendance at the services and the many beautiful floral offerings gave silent testimony of the esteem in which the deceased was held.
