H.J. (Babe) Cox of Peerless dies Thursday
Houston Jerome (Babe) Cox 64 year old prominent Peerless farmer-stockman, succumbed early Thursday last week at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Sybil Jones 829 College Street in Sulpher Springs. He had been ill for several weeks.
Mr. Cox was born April 8, 1885 in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse T. Cox. He came with his parents to Hopkins county at the age of 14, and spent the remainder of his life here.
In 1921 he was married to Miss Martha Ball, of West Virginia, who survives deceased was a member of the Christian Church, and was held in high esteem by a host of acquaintances.
Survivors include the wife, four sons, Jesse Cox, Ridgeway, Carl Cox, Fresno, Calif.; Sterling Cox, Sulphur Springs; and Houston Cox, Dallas, four daughters, Mrs. Pauline Moore, Ridgeway, Mrs. Edith Hartman, Brooklyn NY, Mrs Oveta Brumley, Dallas, and Mrs. Sybil Jones, Sulphur Springs; Rollie Cox and Noe Cox, both of Elroy, Ariz.; four sisters, Mrs. Eunice Free, Sulphur Springs; Mrs. Alice Whilhite, Ridgeway; Mrs Polly Stapleton, Egangerg and Mrs. Bertha Barlett, Ft. Cobb, Oklahoma; and 26 grandchildren.
Funeral rites will be held at 3 O'clock Friday afternoon at the Peerless Baptist Church, with interment in the Peerless Cemetery. Rev. W. A. Jackson will conduct the services. The body of Mr. Cox will remain at his Peerless home until time for the funeral services.
Pallbearers will include Marvin Evans, T. Arnold, Frank Darrow, Jake Orr, Ben D. Booth, Wesley Caldwell, Frank Caldwell and aubrey Tittsworth.
Honarary pallbearers will include Charlie McKinney, of Cooper, buddy Jackson, Will Jones, George Prim, Willis Tennison, Sam Graham, Garrison Meadows, Bill Meadows, Johnny Evans, Hallie Arnold, Rev. John Helm, Rev. Cook, George Simms, George Mogley, Vivan Mobley, Jacol Lindley, Clyde Mead, Floyd Milligan.
