27th United States Vice President, US Congressman. He was elected in 1908 as Vice President of the United States on the Republican Party ticket that saw William Howard Taft elected as the 27th United States President. Prior to his Vice Presidency, he served as a Republican Congressman from New York in the United States House of Representatives, having been elected on three different occasions to represent three different Congressional Districts (New York's 23rd, 25th and 27th), and serving a total of twenty years (1887 to 1891, 1893 to 1909). He died in office only a week before the 1912 election, in which he was running with President Taft for another term. To date he is the last United States Vice President to die in office.
