Easley
Joseph Riley Yates, 84, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. G. Murrel, 71 Cuberland Ave. at about 8 p.m. Thursday August 28, 1952 following several weeks serious illness.
He was born and reared in Pickens County the son of Alec and Elizabeth Smith Yates.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ella Stancil Yates, Easley, four sons, Walter, John, Tom, all of Liberty; Bailey of Easley; three daughters, Mrs. E. G. Murrell of Easley, Mrs. L. M. McCall of Six Mile, Mrs Joe Alexander of Liberty; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Mattie Stancil of Liberty.
Funeral services were conducted at Eastside Baptist Church in Liberty of which he was a member, at 4 p.m. Saturday August 30, 1952 by the Rev. A. M. Bryant, the Rev. Earl Roach and the Rev. R. L. Hart. Burial was in the Abbott Cemetery in Liberty.
