NEW CONCORD - Dorothy Verda Emler, 94, formerly of Westview Drive, New Concord, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, at Gateway Health Care Center, Euclid.
She was born Oct. 9, 1912, in Scranton, N.D., a daughter of the late Rev. Carl and Pauline Prigge Bartels. She graduated in 1930 from the New England High School, New England, N.D. and on Aug. 29, 1957, from Muskingum College. She retired in 1970 after serving as an elementary teacher in East Fultonham, Otsego and at Garfield and Park elementary schools in Cambridge. She was a member of the New Concord United Methodist Church, former district officer in the United Methodist Women, former member of Cambridge Teachers' Association and a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers.
Surviving are two daughters, Sharon (Brent) Morgan of Cleveland and Janet (Paul) Foley of Fairfax Station, Va.; three grandchildren, Roderick Albert (Andrea) Morgan of Mechanicsville, Va., Matthew Scott Foley of Fairfax Station, Va., and Melissa Anela (James) Foley Batrla of Germantown, Md.; a great-grandson, Benjamin Peter Morgan; and a great-granddaughter, Ember Anela Batrla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd W. Emler, who died Jan. 23, 1993; a grandson, Lance Bradford Morgan; sisters, Gertrude Schueman, Pauline Briggs and Viola Wright; and brothers, Dr. Martin Bartels and Carl Bartels.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at the Mock-Miller Funeral Home, 63 W. Main St., New Concord.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at the funeral home with the Rev. Steve Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in New Concord Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to New Concord United Methodist Church, Alzheimer's Association or the Hospice of the Western Reserve.
