"REYNOLDS, MRS. WILLIE MAE — age 80, of Woods Memorial Nursing Home, Etowah, passed away Wednesday night at Etowah Hospital following a lingering illness. Formerly of Indiana for 40 years. Teacher in the Etowah School System. Graduate of TWC. Retired from teaching in 1971. Member of Etowah First Baptist Church. Daughter of the late John Alexander and Ada Williams Tate; wife of the late Harry T. Reynolds. Raised by her uncle and aunt O.P. and Edna Johnson. Survivors: son, J. Robert Denton, Winter Park, Fla.; daughter, Mrs. David (Polly) Richman, Hartford City, Ind.; brother, Joe Tate; sisters, Kate Bachman, both of Akron Ohio, and Nina White, Englewood; four grand-children; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday. Bordwine Chapel, Rev. Jack Pennington officiating. Burial Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at Bordwine Funeral Home, Etowah."

Johnson and Edna Tate Johnson are next to each other on one side of the upright "Reynolds" stone and Willie & Harry are next to each other on the other side. Edna is Willie's aunt (see Edna Johnson Memorial ID 27136359).

Willie's parents, John A. Tate and Ada E. (Williams) Tate, married June 1900. Ada passed away 10 May 1908. John then married Daisy Rutherford but she passed away 3 Apr 1910. The 1910 US Census (26 Apr, Monroe Country, TN, Civil District 18, ED 155) has John (age 35, widowed), with daughters Nannie (Nina, 8), Katie (4), and Willie M. (2, b. 4 Dec 1907), and son Joseph (6, Joe). Nettie Williams (servant, age 24, widowed) lives with them. [ Children are: Joe Arlington, Katie Lee, Nina Jane, and Willie Mae Tate.]

The 1930 Census (McMinn, 2 Apr, ED 54-8, Etowah Town) shows Willie M. Denton (divorced) and son John R. (3) living with O.P. Johnson and Edna (Tate) Johnson. Willie is a school teacher with a city school. [In 1930, Lynn Denton and Harry Reynolds were living in Etowah, TN.]

Per McMinn County Marriage Records, Willie Mae Tate married Lynn M. Denton on 13 Aug 1925. Willie Mae (Tate) Denton later married Harry Thomas Reynolds (est. married 1934 in McMinn Co., TN). The 1940 Census (Wayne Township, Henry Co., Indiana, ED 33-39, 11 Apr) shows Harry Reynolds (33. farmer), Willie Mae (31, age off), John Robert (AKA Bobby/Bob, age 13), and Polly Ann (age 4). Willie is a primary school teacher in a public school, has been married more than once, first married at 17, and the number of children ever born to her was 2.

3 Apr 1950 Census (Liberty, Henry Co., Indiana, State Road 38) has Harry Reynolds (44, TN), Willie M. Reynolds (42, TN), John R. Reynolds (23, TN), and Polly A. Reynolds (14, TN). Harry is a hammer man at an auto factory, Willie sorts check rings at an auto factory, John is a machine operator at an auto factory, and Polly is a student in high school. A year ago, they were living in the same house. [Harry worked for Chyrsler Corp. in New Castle for 30 years, retiring in 1968. and then took up farming.]

The 01 Jul 1951 Henry County, Indiana marriage record for Willie's son John Robert Denton to Martha Ellen Swearingen shows Lynn M. Denton living in Shepherdsville KY and Willie Mae living in New Castle Indiana.

Harry and Willie eventually moved from Indiana back to Etowah TN, and lived in the house that had belonged to Aunt Edna. Per a family friend, they ran Alley Antiques in the garage behind their house, which was right beside the alley. Willie and Harry moved to Orlando about 1980 to be near Willie's son John Robert Denton in Winter Park, Orange Co., FL. Harry passed away at an Orlando, FL hospital in 1981. Willie later returned to Etowah, TN.
