Please note generation: Peter Eckroth/Eckenroth(4)(Christian Eckenroth 3, John Peter Eckenroth 2, John Eckenroth(1).

Peter Eckroth (4) is the son of Christian Eckenroth (3) See bio: Christian Eckenroth (3)

Please note:Christian(3) Peter's father may be that of "Eckenroth" Surname. Peter(4) is the third child born to Christian Eckenroth(3) and Christian's 2nd wife; Mary Magdalen nee Schlosser.

Peter later used the Surname "Eckroth or Eckrote" Why?
Two of the Eckroth brothers: John Eckroth(3)and Daniel Eckroth(3) married their 2nd Cousins, whom came from the Eckenroth side; later these families moved to Stark County, Ohio, from Mifflin PA. Guardianship was granted to the Eckroth/Eckroat side of Surname.

Peter Eckroth was born Nov. 10th 1790 probably in Dauphin county. PA and died 17th July 1848 aged 57 years, 8 months and 7 days in Mifflinville, Columbia county, PA. He is buried in row 138, in Mifflinville Cemetery, Mifflinville, PA (Mifflinville Cemetery Listing, Walter C. Berryman, 1969, page 34).

During the War of 1812, Peter(4) served as a Private in the 157th Regiment, Columbia county Militia, Second Brigade, Ninth Division commanded by William Means, Captain George Ely according to a report dated 21st of October 1814 (PA. Archives, Series 6, Vol. 7, Page 617).

When Peter's father, Christian(3)died in November 1817, Peter(4) inherited half of the 140 acre home farm. Between October 1832 and April 1834 his brother Christian (4) moved to Bethlehem Township, Stark County, Ohio. Peter remained behind and on 18th October 1837, from Ohio, Christian(4) and his wife Elizabeth granted power of Attorney to Peter(4) authorizing him to sell in their name their 20 acres of land in Mifflin Township, Columbia County, PA to Peter Bowman for $160.

Peter's will was dated 8th of June 1848 and probated the 25th of July 1848. It was only eight days after his death on the 17th of July 1848. In his will he names his wife, Lydia and probably the eldest son, Lewis(5). He bequeathed for lots and two houses on Third and Fair Street and on Front and Fair Street in Mifflinville to Lydia. (Columbia county Will #14, Book 2, page 500-501) We have not discovered when Lydia died nor where. However, she may be the Lydia Eckroat buried in the cemetery of "Harger's Church", that is St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beaver Township, Columbia County, PA.

Peter and Lydia had 13 children:
