John F. Hill
John F. Hill was born Dec. 25, 1914 in SC. On Sept. 22, 1836, he wed Mary M. Avery, resident of Winston Co., MS, and daughter of Samuel Avery. John F. and Mary Avery Hill were the parents of the following children:

Samuel Avery Hill, 1840-1921, wed Cornelia V. Golden on March 14, 1864. Samuel served in the Civil War, 3rd Corp., Pettus Rebels, the Fourth Company that left Winston Co., MS. Samuel is buried in the Avery Burial Ground in Winston Co.

Martha C. Hill, born about 1842, wed James C. Arrington on Dec. 21, 1864. Tomb record lists name as J.O. Arrington b. Dec. 16, 1844, d. Jan 29, 1878, buried Lower Sixteenth-Ellison Ridge Cemetery. Mary Hill born about 1845, Winston Co., MS.

Matilda "Tilda" Hill, born about 1847, never wed. Lucinda Hill born about 1848, died before 1860 census. Frances Hill born about 1851, never wed.

Susan Hill born about 1853, wed Thomas Blancy on July 25, 1880. Mazouri C. Hill born about 1855, wed Bradford Kelly on Nov. 25, 1876. John F. Hill, Jr., born about 1857, wed Ella Ruff (pronounced Roof).

John F. Hill, Jr. and sister Mazouri C. Hill Kelly and families lived in Reform, MS; members of the family recall the old maid sisters going up and spending time with them.

Mary M. Avery Hill, born Sept. 1816, died March 20, 1875. John F. Hill died July 1897. They are interred at the Lower Sixteenth Cemetery, Ellison Ridge.

In John F. Hill's lifetime the site was known as "The Methodist Camp Grounds". This was the Methodist Camp Meeting Center. In the summer, Methodist families would come from far and near in the county. They would bring their food for a week's stay and sometimes longer. There was a good spring of water nearby. it was a time for family reunions, good eating, and "Old Fashioned Revival Meeting", such as the present generation has never seen.
