Ferman F. Elrod, 82, of 622 Ninth Street, Etowah, retired flagman with the L&N Railroad, died Monday morning in the local hospital following a long illness. A native of Murray County, Georgia, Mr. Elrod resided in Etowah for 55 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, and was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Betty Griffith Elrod of Etowah; seven daughters, Mrs. Irma Gwaltney and Mrs. Virginia Lee Malskey, both of Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Irene Amell of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Margaret Mann and Mrs. Betty Shelfer, both of Leesburg, Fla., Mrs. Mary Kincaid of Newport Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Joan Roddy of Chattanooga; three sons, Frank H. Elrod of Seattle, Wash., Ralph and L.J. Elrod, both of Etowah; one step-daughter, Mrs. Frankie Munday of Emerson, Ga.; one step-son, Jimmy Griffith of White, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Josie Bramlett of Dalton, Ga., and Mrs. Ida Coker of Cohutta, Ga.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10 a.m., in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Rev. Ray R. Haynes, pastor of st. Paul's United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in Green Hill Cemetery. Bordwine Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. - From The Etowah Enterprise, June 28, 1973
