John Harlie Burgess
John Harlie Burgess, 84 years young, went home to be with his Savior January 28, 2007 after a long battle with cancer. He was formerly of Maryville, TN and retired as a barber in Chattanooga. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack. He was a member of East Ridge Baptist Church and a member and past master of East Lake Masonic Lodge # 698 F. & A.M. He was also a member of the York Rite. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Burgess; his parents, Carl and Elsie Jane Burgess; and his sisters, Beulah Rushing and Faye Reed.
Mr. Burgess was the most loving, caring father and grandfather that never met a stranger.
Survivors include his daughters, Teressa Carden, Donna (Johnny) Thomasson and son, Jimmy (Cathy) Burgess; caregiver and granddaughter, Sandora Carden; brother, George (Barbara) Burgess; and sisters Ann (Leroy) Huff and Thelma Campbell all of Maryville, TN; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning, February 2, 2007 at 11:30 in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. Ronnie Mitchell and members of the Masonic Lodge officiating. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery with full military honors.
