Sgt. David Lee Leimbach of Taylors, South Carolina had just gotten married on Jan. 9 when he was home on leave. He completed his tour of duty with the South Carolina 218th Brigade Combat Team, which returned home in early May 2008. But he volunteered to stay in Afghanistan and serve with a unit from the New York National Guard for an additional six months. Prior to his entering the South Carolina National Guard, David served in the military a member of the Marine Corps and also as a member of the Marine Corps Reserve. He was killed in a hostile fire incident at age 38.
