Spc. Justin L. Buxbaum of South Portland, Maine attended South Portland High School and was a 2004 graduate where he worked the hard to create a bright future for himself. He was listed on the high honor roll before graduating having received a scholarship and an award for his academic achievements. He joined the United States National Guard immediately after graduation, and had enlisted while still a student. Justin served two tours with the National Guard and returned to South Portland briefly before enlisting in the Army. Justin was serving his third tour overseas. He had already served two tours of duty in Iraq. He was known for his love of children. Justin was passionate in everything he did from his studies, to athletics and most recently in his service to our country in the Army. Family always came first for Justin; he was especially devoted to his mother and his brother, William. He was the son any parent would be proud of and the friend everyone wants to have. He was an unusually mature and courageous young man who overcame whatever obstacles were in his way to find a path to success. Justin's dreams and goals for the future included becoming an elementary school teacher and having a family of his own someday. He was killed while serving while serving his second tour in Afghanistan at age 23.
