Emerson S. Merritt, Sr. , of Hanover died on May 4, 2008 at his home. He was born in Norwell son of Archie and Nellie (Stoddard) Merritt and was raised and educated there graduating from Norwell High School in 1932. He has made his home in Hanover since 1944. Emerson was a veteran of World War II attaining the rank of Chief Carpenters Mate in the US Navy. Mr. Merritt worked his entire career as a carpenter at the Fore River Shipyard for the General Dynamics Co. He had been an avid baseball player for the Union AA and Thorpe Motor baseball teams in Weymouth. He also enjoyed deer hunting as well as raccoon and rabbit hunting
