Oscar E. Jacklin, prominent 68 year-old Shelby township farmer, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home one mile west of Fenns, Monday at 6:00 p.m. He had been in failing health for four years but death was unexpected.
A lifelong resident of Shelby County, he was born in Shelby township on October 22, 1883, the son of Thomas and Mary Ann (Shutt) Jacklin. He was a member of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and the Shelby township Farm Bureau.
On March 14, 1911, he married Mary Alsen Smith, who survives with one son, Clarence Jacklin of Downers Grove, Ill. Also surviving are two grandsons; two sisters, Mrs. Celia Lewis of near Lewis Creek and Mrs. Fannie McCartney of this city, and one brother, Charles Jacklin of Shelby township.
Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Gilead Church Thursday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. John Knight of Peru officiating. Burial in charge of the Sleeth Funeral Home, will be at the Miller cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7:00 o'clock this evening. (Obit: The Shelbyville News, April 22, 1952)
