"R. ROGERS, PIONEER REALTY MAN DIES. Ralph Rogers, sixty-five, prominent realty dealer and philanthropist, died at his home, 1599 Campus road, Garvanza, yesterday. For forty-seven years he was an active promoter of the interests of this city, and his death is mourned by thousands of friends in the west. Mr. Rogers was a pioneer, having crossed the plains in a prairie schooner when a boy. He was born in Nashville [sic], Tenn., and later went to Texas with his parents. After the great gold strike was reported from the Klondike he spent five years in the north. Returning to Los Angeles in 1900 Mr. Rogers resumed activity in the realty line. Five years ago he presented to Occidental college forty-five acres of land, the present site of the educational institute. He later donated land and built the York boulevard Methodist Episcopal church. Mr. Rogers is survived by a widow, Mrs. Mabel Rogers; one daughter, Mrs. Jack Morgan of Youngstown, Canada; five sons - Leslie, Samuel, Gerard [sic], Ralph and Hugh Rogers - all of Los Angeles; one brother and five sisters. Funeral services will be held from the home."
[Transcriber's notes: Ralph was born in rural Jackson County, Tennessee, far east of Nashville. He spent three years in the far north. His third son was Gerald, not Gerard.]
