Robert E. Cartwright, 56, retired Xenia Police Division captain, who resided at 13034 Ft. Hill Rd., Hillsboro, died in a Bainbridge restaurant following a sudden heart attack Friday afternoon. He was born in Xenia on Jan. 30, 1928, the son of Alta and Mabel E. Craig Cartwright. His wife, Grace Henrietta Cartwright, died July 14, 1981. He was a member of the Xenia Moose Lodge No.1629 and resided in the Hillsboro area since 1976.
Surviving are a daughter Mrs. Edward (Patricia) Gallagher of Dayton; a son Robert T. Cartwright of Xenia and a stepson, Loren Lorenzo of Xenia; a step-grandson, Jeremy Lorenzo of Xenia and 11 grandchildren. Preceded in death a brother Harold R. Cartwright.
Mr. Cartwright resigned as city police captain in 1972. He was appointed to the police division in 1954 following employment at NCR. He was appointed sergeant in 1961 and attained the rank of captain in 1967. During the period May to November 1971, he served as acting chief of police between the departure of Chief Harold W. Miller and the appointment of Raymond B. Jordan. He was a 1946 graduate of Central High School.
