Jaime came to Arkansas in 1956 on a scholarship from the Panamanian government to study at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where he met and married Glenda Craft of Pine Bluff. After graduating with a B.S.E. in Agriculture, he moved his family to Panama to fulfill his scholarship obligation of working to improve Panamanian agriculture. Jaime returned to the States in 1962 and became a U.S. citizen in 1966. He worked for the Dept. of Rehabilitation Services for 10 years and became a Probation Officer and later served as an employment specialist for the U.S. Probation Office, Eastern District of Arkansas. He became the Supervising Officer in 1980, when he assisted in processing Cuban refugees from the Mariel boat lift. He retired in 1996.
Dad's passion was ministering to the Hispanic community.
Survivors include one daughter, Cissy and husband James Reid of Cabot; three sons, Rusty and wife Lisa Guerra of Little Rock, Tony and wife Leigh Ann Guerra of Benton, and John and wife Terry Guerra of Mt. Ida; two sisters, Ceci Sedelmeier and husband Herbert and Bebe Guerra all of Panama; one brother, Rodrigo and wife Dani Guerra also of Panama; grandchildren, Janie, John Michael, Caroline, Jackson, Rachel, Jo Beth, Will, Wes, Mary Grace, Margaret, Gage, Lawren, Eva, and Lacy; great grandchildren, Morganne, Maddox, and Aiden, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Benton, Ark. with Father Michael Bass and Father Salvadore Marquez-Munoz officiating with Mr. Guerra's son, Rev. John Guerra delivering the eulogy.
A private family burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander.
