Ruth I. (Beckfeldt) Martin, 77, of Beatrice died Monday, June 15, 2015 at her home. She was born to Henry and Myrtle (Rodaway) Beckfeldt on a farm northwest of Syracuse on November 21, 1937 and lived there most of her childhood life. She graduated from the eighth grade at District 87, Otoe County. In 1954, she married Harold Hermann who died in a truck-train accident in 1955. One daughter and one son were born to this union. In 1956, she married Richard Samland and four children were born to this union. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1975. In 1976, she received her High School Equivalency Diploma from Southeast Community College, Fairbury, NE. In 1978, she married Delbert Martin and in 1979, they moved to Anchorage, AK. In 1981, she attended Alaska Business College in Anchorage, receiving a degree in National Airline Travel and Accounting and went to work for ERA Helicopters in Anchorage. After Del retired in 1984, they moved to Emmett, ID to care for his folks before returning to Alaska in 1990. In 1985, Ruth's father passed away and in 1995, Ruth's mother came to Alaska to live with them. In February of 2008, her mother passed away and in the fall they decided to move to Beatrice to be closer to their children. They spent many wonderful years in the big adventurous state of Alaska. She was a devoted Christian and always active in her church. She especially enjoyed ministering to the elderly. Stephens Ministry played a big part in her life while living in Anchorage. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Beatrice where she was a deacon and a Stephens Minister. She loved her family very much and enjoyed their visits, letters, cards and phone calls as well as getting together with them on special occasions. They were always in her prayers. She enjoyed crocheting, counted cross-stitch, quilting and playing cards, dominoes and rummikub with her husband Del and friends. She also loved reading the Bible, having daily devotions with her husband and watching college football. She is survived by her loving husband Delbert of 37 wonderful years; her wonderful children and spouses: Carol (Hermann) and Richard Strunk of Jansen, NE, Sharon (Samland) Rosenthal of Jansen, NE, Richard, Jr. and Jane (Goeckel) Samland of Hollenberg, KS, Debra (Samland) Santee of Beatrice and Charles Samland of Lincoln; step-children: Patrick and Janice (Halligan) Martin of North Platte, Marshall and Lori (Loeffelbein) Martin of Mesa, AZ, Teresa (Martin) Whitener of Anchorage, AK; brothers, Carl Gordon and wife Deborah of Phoenix, AZ, Gary Beckfeldt of Lincoln; sister, Madonna Bell and husband Greg of Mequon, WI; 14 grand-children; five step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Harold Hermann; son, William Hermann; second husband, Richard Samland; two grandchildren; two brothers and one son-in-law. Funeral services will be held Monday June 22, 2015 at 12:00 noon at the First Presbyterian Church of Beatrice with Rev. Dr. Jimmy Shelbourn officiating. Burial will be in the Emmett Cemetery of Emmett, ID. A family prayer service will be held at 11:45 A.M. in the basement of the church on Monday. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home from 8:00 A.M. Saturday until 9:00 P.M. Sunday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Monday. The family will meet and greet friends and relatives on Sunday from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Beatrice or their favorite charity.
