JoAnn Harcrow Jay, 71, of Speegleville went to be with Jesus on her birthday, Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004 following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Oakcrest Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Bailey, pastor of Speegleville Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at China Spring Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at OakCrest Funeral Home.
Mrs. Jay was born Feb. 12, 1933, in Waco, the eighth child to Virgil Carlisle (John)and Loreta Horn Harcrow. She attended Waco schools. Mrs. Jay and her husband, H. B. Jay were married July 9, 1955 in Waco. After retiring they were founding members of the Antique Pickers, a group of senior musicians who met for jam sessions and to play at nursing homes and other senior activities. Mrs. Jay enjoyed life and loved spending time with her family and friends, playing 42 and singing with the band. She was a loving, generous woman who exhibited grace and courage throughout her illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Ruby Dowdy.
She is survived by her husband, H.B. Jay of Speegleville, three daughters, Carla Johnson Hines and husband John; Beverly Cook and husband Mike of Waco, and Donna Yglecias; six grandchildren, Tammy Barrack, Ty Jay, Michael Cook, Ashley Cook, Joey Yglecias and Macy Yglecias; two great-grandchildren, Ty Jay, Jr and Tory Jay; four sisters, Virginia Whisenant of Hewitt, Jackie Leismeister of California, LaFon Purdy of Oklahoma and her "Sissy" Mary and Charles Cotharn of Speegleville; three brothers, Jim and Susie Harcrow, and Harold "Bubba" Harcrow all of California.
Pallbearers will be Joey Yglecias, Ty Jay, Michael Cook, Albert Yglecias, Charles Cotharn and Weylin Cotharn.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Antique Pickers and L. B. Moore.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation of the staff of Hillcrest Hospital, 8th floor and Hillcrest Hospice for their loving, compassionate support to her and us during the final days of her life. We would also like to thank Drs. Wilson, Ramadan, Myers, Gibney, Reese and Crosthwaite for their kindness during her long illness.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association of the National Kidney Foundation.
