Charlotte Clabaugh, 76, the daughter of Fred and Winifred (Jackson) Kelly, was born July 19, 1926 at Superior. She died Dec. 21, at the Good Samaritan Center, Nelson.

She lived on the family farm near Nora and attended elementary school in Nora before moving with her family to Nelson in 1935. She graduated from Nelson High School in 1944 and from the University of Nebraska in 1948 with a double major in sociology and psychology. On Sept 5 , 1948 she married Lee Clabaugh. They had three children, Steven, Janet and David. They made Nelson their home.

In 1968, Lee and Charlotte purchased the Commercial Bank. Charlotte was elected vice-president and served on the board of directors until taking a leave of absence in 1975. At that time, she became director of the Nuckolls County Department of Social Services and served in that capacity until her resignation in 1984.

She was active in volunteer work. Local history was a favorite interest. She did research on the history of Nuckolls County and the city of Nelson in particular. She was one of several people who were instrumental in beginning the Nuckolls County Museum in Superior. She wrote a local history column called "Dugouts" for the Nelson Gazette.

She was a social services volunteer. She worked at the Hastings Regional Center in the Vocational Rehab United and volunteered at the Educational service Unit with the School for Retarded Children in Hastings. From 1970-78 she was a board member of the Educational services Development Program. She recruited several retired teachers in the area to help adults in Nuckolls County achieve their high school equivalency diplomas.

She served on the board of the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson and the Nuckolls County Advisory Group of SASA. She was a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Center. She was active in the Methodist Church and the Nelson Community United Church of Christ. She was a past president and 58 year member of Chapter J P.E.O. and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She served on the Brodstone Memorial Hospital Foundation Board.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mrs. Robert Walker (Gwen), and Mrs. Gardner Taylor (Donna).

Survivors include her husband on Nelson, brother, Fred Kelly, Omaha; a son, Steve, Nelson , daughter, Mrs. Jack Podoll (Janet), Lenexa, son, Dave, Beatrice; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one step-grandson.

Services were held Friday from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ with the Rev. Dr. Ralph Sturdy officiating.
Internment was in the Nelson Cemetery.

Klawitter-Price Funeral Home, Nelson, was in charge of arrangements.
