Elvina Barsness was born in Urness Township on March 14, 1895, the daughter of Albert and Karen Barsness. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and was a life long member of West Moe Church. She graduated from the Alexandria High School, Moorhead State Teachers College and the University of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Elvina taught one year in Henning, Minnesota and in Grand Forks until her retirement in 1960.
Elvina passed away at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, Minnesota on Saturday, February 8, 1972, at the age of 76 years. She is survived by one sister and two brothers: Jennie Barsness of Brandon; Alfred Barsness of Brandon; Norman Barsness of Duluth, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Oscar, Ole, Carl and Arthur, three sisters: Olena, Clara and Cecelia.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 12, 1972 at 2 p.m. from the West Moe Church, Moe Township, Rev. Harold Knutson officiating. Interment was at West Moe Cemetery, Moe Township. Pallbearers were Clifford Barsness, Arthur Barsness, Richard Barsness, David Barsness, Eugene Barsness and Ingvald Barsness.
