Opal F. Burns, 88, of Olney, died at 2:45 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2008, at Burgin Manor in Olney.

Visitation will be at noon Friday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Brad Garner officiating. Burial will be in Crest Haven Memorial Park in rural Claremont.

Mrs. Burns was born January 9, 1920, in Richland County. The daughter of Orville and Altha (Rogers) Luthe. She married Ray Simen in 1935 and he preceded her in death on December 6, 1965. She married Robert E. Burns in 1968 and he preceded her in death on August 5, 1986. She retired from International Shoe Factory.

She is survived by sons, Leon "Jack" Leroy Simon and his wife, Martha, of Jacksonville, Ark., Robert Allen Simon his and wife, Shirley, of Dix, Albert "Joe" Lee Simon and his wife Ruth, of Olney, and Loren (Mick) Frederick Simon and his wife Nona, of Olney; daughters, Gladys Marie Scherer, of Olney, daughter, Marilyn Sue Anderson, of Olney, daughter, Shirley Joan Derrow and her husband Rex, of Auburn, Ind.; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, and three great-great-great-grandchildren, sister, Mary (Beatrice) Nance, Spencerville, Ohio.

Mrs. Burns is preceded in death by parents, husband, son Kenneth La Verne, brothers, Byrle, Adolphus F. and William, sisters, Vivian Jenkins and Genevieve Lenard, and three great-great-grandchildren.
