Anchorage resident Peggy Margaret Parot, 62, died Feb. 12, 1996, at home after a long illness. A funeral was held at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, downtown, with a visitation. The Rev. Curtis Stokes officiated. Burial was held during a private ceremony at Wasilla Cemetery.

Ms. Parot was born May 22, 1933, in Buffalo, N.Y. She graduated from School No. 47 in Buffalo in 1947 and continued her education at Haskel Institute Indian School in Lawrence, Kan., graduating in 1950. Ms. Parot moved to Anchorage in March 1971, working at the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a contract/grant technician from 1977 until retiring in 1995. Her family said: ''She was raised Catholic and loved the Lord all her life. She received numerous recognitions and awards in line with her career. In her younger years, she was the Indian Princess of the American Royal Horse Show and was also the Queen of the Shawnee Horse Show. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, riding horses and was a seamstress. Ms. Parot loved and lived for her children. She was a pillar of strength and wisdom for her children, nieces and nephews and siblings. She was always there for us and had a great sense of humor. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten as her wisdom will carry through us all in our everyday lives.''

Ms. Parot is survived by her daughter, Debbie White of Anchorage; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Rick Brumley of Wasilla and Laura and John Longstaff of Seattle; son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Caroline Beeman of North Carolina; son, Steve Rein of Loveland, Colo.; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Jim Straughn of Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Regina Parot of Washington state; and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
