WILLIE J. SUMMERLIN, SR.
Willie James Summerlin, Jr., 78, of Bear Creek Road, died unexpectedly August 6 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Summerlin was born in Duplin County to the late Herbert Joyner Summerlin and Addie Jones Summerlin. He was the owner of New Hope Grocery and had worked as a bail bondsman in Wayne County for many years. Mr. Summerlin was a member of Rooty Branch Free Will Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Goldsboro Elks Lodge B.P.O.E #139.
A graveside service was held Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Park with Rick Pridgen officiating.
Mr. Summerlin is survived by his wife, Josephene Jones Summerlin, a son, Willie Summerlin Jr. of Pikeville; a daughter, Brenda Summerlin Taylor of Goldsboro; grandchildren Trey Summerlin, Brittney Summerlin Taylor and Nicholas Summerlin; Two sisters, Mary Wilkins and husband Bill, of Mount Airy, and Katherine Tadlock of Mount Olive.
Mr. Summerlin was preceded in death by his stepmother, Lannie Summerlin; a brother, Herbert Lee Summerlin; and two sisters, Nellie Williams and Addie Sparks.
Memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058; or to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville NC 27834.
