She was the daughter and eldest child of Stephen and Elizabeth (Stanhope) Richards of Robbinston and Whiting Maine. Her father died in the Civil War. She lived with her mother and siblings until the age of 18 when she took a job as a domestic in the household of Warren J. Huntley who was manager of a sawmill in East Machias. She married his son Alexander.
Emeline married Alexander M. Huntley of East Machias on June 21, 1870. They had children Dora Ida Lizzie 1871, Sabrina F. 1874, Mabel F. 1881 and Annie D. S. 1883. He was the son of Joseph W. Huntley and Ruth R. Maker of Marion and East Machias.
In the 1880 census Alexander and Emeline were living with his parents in E. Machias and Alexander was a butcher at that time. Alexander died Dec 16, 1891, drowned in Gardners Lake.
She married George McKenzie in 1899. He was born in 1856 in PEI Canada and immigrated in 1880.
In the 1900 census in Whitneyville, George McKenzie was 44 and a railroad employee, Emeline H. was 40 and had given birth to four children . In the household with them were her daughters Mabel, age 18, nurse, Annie D., age 17, nurse, and Alexander Rowe, a grandson and son of daughter Sabrina (Huntley) Rowe. Her daughter Dora Ida had married by that time to her first husband Henry J. Hoar and was living in Eastport. She would later marry a third cousin Enock L. Huntley of E. Machias in 1909.
Emeline McKenzie died in Whitneyville at age 54 10 mos and 12 days of agnina pectoris.
