She lived with her mother and siblings until the age of 18 when she took a job as a domestic in the household of Warren J. Huntley who was manager of a sawmill in East Machias. She married his son Alexander.

In the 1880 census Alexander and Emeline were living with his parents in E. Machias and Alexander was a butcher at that time. Alexander died Dec 16, 1891, drowned in Gardners Lake.

Her daughter Dora Ida had married by that time to her first husband Henry J. Hoar and was living in Eastport. She would later marry a third cousin Enock L. Huntley of E. Machias in 1909.
