Edward Robert Wood, son of Noah F. and Henrietta Wood, was born June 23, 1882, on a farm near Spring Hill, Ia., and died in Indianola, Ia., March 19, 1971, at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 26 days.
He grew to manhood in the community of his birth, and attended rural school there. He also attended the Christian Church in Spring Hill.
March 11, 1903, he was united in marriage to Luretta McGlothlen at her parental home in the Spring Hill community. Seven children came to bless their home. They were James, Alice, Murray, Clive, Edward Jr., Donald and Dale.
They first made their home on a farm near Spring Hill, and they subsequently lived on other farms in Warren County including one near New Virginia. Except for two years when the family lived in Palo Alto County he lived his life in Warren County. The last 16 years he lived in Indianola. Four and a half years ago he moved to the Jefferson Home and had lived there since that time.
His son, Donald, and his wife, Luretta, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Alice Sparks of Granger, Ia.; five sons, James, Murray, Clive and Dale of Indianola and Edward Jr. of Norwalk; 21 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Emmett of Springfield, Mo., and Eugene of Indianola; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Glen W. Lamb March 22 at the Overton Funeral Home. Interment was in the Webb Cemetery.
