Mamie M. McGlothlin [McGlothlen]second daughter of Frank and Alice McGlothlin [McGlothlen] was born near Carlisle in the year 1879 on the sixth day of March and died at the Mercy hospital, April 7, 1914, aged 35 years, 1 month and 1 day. She united with the Baptist church at the age of eighteen. She was a faithful member until death, being organist for over five years. She was united in marriage to George F. Vance, March 6, 1899. To this union were born four children, Bernice M., Geraldine F., Donna L., Freda M.C. She leaves to mourn her loss besides a husband and four daughters, a father, Mr. Frank McGlothlin [McGlothlen]and two sisters, Mrs. Alec Hollings and Mrs. Eddie Wood, all of Spring Hill and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Vance was taken sick about three weeks ago and during the time of her illness she received the best of care and medical aid that loving hand could give, but all to no avail and the Death Angel took the treasure away. She was a loving wife, a kind mother and will be greatly missed by her loved ones. When she realized that death was near she called her husband to her bedside, telling him that she had fought and strived to stay with him, and if he would take her in his loving arms she would die happy in Jesus.

A precious mother from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.

God in His wisdom has recalled
The boon his love had given
And though the body slumbers here,
The mother is safe in Heaven.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Howland Hanson from the First Baptist church in Des Moines, at the Baptist church in Spring Hill in the presence of a large number of friends and neighbors on Thursday morning after which the remains were laid to rest in the Webb cemetery.

Mr. George F. Vance and daughters desire to thank the friends who so kindly assisted them during the illness and death of their wife and mother.
