Merlie Hoover Glascock was born Jan. 18, 1909, on a farm north of Spring Hill. She was a daughter of George and Cretia Hoover. Merlie died at her home July 4, 1978.
She attended school in Spring Hill and was a member of the Class of 1927. Following high school graduation, she attended American Institute of Business, graduating in May, 1928. She then worked for the Iowa State Teachers Association until 1943.
Aug. 10, 1928, Merlie was united in marriage to Charles Glascock. To that union, a daughter, Charlynn, was born Nov. 3, 1945. She died in her infancy.
Merlie was community minded. She helped organize the Webb Cemetery Association in 1945 and served as its president until this spring, 1978.
She had also served as secretary for the School Board at Spring Hill. She is preceded in death by daughter, Charlynn, and sister, Faye.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; two brothers, Ival (Bob) of Tuscon, Ariz., and Don of Norwalk. To this list must be added a host of loved one and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 8, at Gallaway-McLaren's Funeral Home. The Rev. Earl E. Swigart, pastor of First Baptist Church of Norwalk conducted the services. Burial was at Webb Cemetery.
