Headline: W. E. Price Dies Following Heart Attack

William Ervin Price, age 64 of Winnfield died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 1975 following a heart attack.

Mr. Price has been an ordained deacon for the past 35 years; church treasurer of First Baptist Church for the past 10 years; member of Eastern Star Lodge No. 151 F&AM, a 32nd Mason and a member of the Monroe Consistory; also a member of the Palestine Chapter No. 55 Order of the Eastern Star; and a member of Winnfield Lions Club for over 25 years.

Mr. Price was farming when he moved his family from Downsville, Louisiana to Winnfield, Louisiana in 1945 to begin managing Southern Funeral Home, then owned by Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Bryan. in 1959 he and his wife and Mrs. W.D. Holder of Jonesboro purchased the company making them co-owners of the Winnfield and Jonesboro businesses. That same year they began formulating plans for an industrial life insurance company which was to come into being early in 1960 and be called Old South Life Insurance Company. Mr. Price was elected First Vice President and served on that board of directors until his death.

Southern Funeral Homes were incorporated in the early 19960's and Mr. Price was elected President of the corporation.

Mrs. Evelyn Price and her sons Larry and Jerry will continue serving this area through Southern Funeral Home in the tradition set by her husband and their father for so many years.

Mr. Price was married to the former Evelyn Bryan of Downsville, La., He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Bryan Price; two sons Larry L. Price and Jerry M. Price both of Winnfield; his mother Mrs. Arie W. Price, of Dodson; a brother McArtis Price, Shreveport; a sister Mrs. Rosie P. Boyd of Clarkston, Washington and four grand children. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Winnfield with interment in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Officiating were the Reverends Calvin Phelps, R.W. Gage and James McNair.

Pallbearers were Lamar Tarver, Scotty Barnes, Jerry Williams, Ed Grigg, Jerry Crooks, James L. Collins, Joe Dosher, Harper Terrill. Honorary Pallbearers were deacons of the First Baptist Church.

Notes: Mrs. Arie W. (Fox) Price was W.E. Price's step-mother. His biological mother was Charity Louise Waller Price.
