Ruth Evans Denio Rites Here Monday
Last rites for Ruth Evans Denio, 69, of New York City, were held at the Wetmore funeral Home in Bedford Monday afternoon, conducted by an Episcopalian Bishop from Des Moines. Burial was in the Bedford cemetery.
Ruth Evans was the daughter of the late Jesse and Clara Evans and was born in Bedford. She graduated from the Bedford High School with the class of 1898, after which she attended the State University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and graduated there. She then went to Sheridan, Wyoming, where she taught several years in the public schools and where she was later married to George [Ralph] Denio. Mr. Denio died in 1927.
Mrs. Denio spent part of her time in Santa Barbara, California but returned East last fall. About Christmastime she submitted to surgery in Boston, Mass., and was later dismissed from the hospital, the operation having apparently been successful. She suffered a relapse however and was operated on the second time, passing away a few days later on January 19, in Boston.
She is survived by five brothers, all former residents of Bedford, and all of whom were present for the last rites. They are Harry Evans of Miami, Oklahoma; Philip Evans and Fred Evans of Joplin, Missouri; Robert Evans of Des Moines; John Evans of Storm Lake, Iowa.
Others present from out of town for the services included Robert Evans’ two daughters and their husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Mathews, Mr. and Mrs. Lovell Harris of Des Moines; John Evans’ two sons, Edwin D. Evans of Joplin, Mo., Jack Evans and his wife of Des Moines; cousins, John Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Harry May of Des Moines.
