T.J. Harper, 77, of Canyon died Wednesday, April 16, 2008.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Freedom Fellowship Church in Canyon with the Rev. Darren Dye, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Mr. Harper was born June 26, 1930, in Amarillo to A.S. and Ruby Harper. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1948. He married Donna Hunt on Aug. 27, 1954, in Amarillo. Mr. Harper earned his bachelor's degree, a master's in business and a master's in education, all from West Texas State University.

He taught one year at Alanreed and also worked for Phillips Petroleum and Shamrock Oil and Gas. He was an associate professor of business at West Texas State University from 1966 until retiring in 1990. Mr. Harper was a former member of the Canyon Library Board and was most recently serving on the Canyon Planning and Zoning Commission. He was a charter member of Canyon Christian Church now Freedom Fellowship Church of Canyon. He was an avid reader and collector and was a devoted husband, dad and grandfather. He accepted Christ at an early age and lived his faith.

He was preceded in death by a brother, W.S. Harper; and a sister, Betty Leonard.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Harper of Canyon; three sons, Clay Harper and wife Perri of Midland, Mich., and Dan Harper and wife Kathy and Dale Harper and wife Cindy, all of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Tracy, Amy, Andy, Jon, Brett and Grant.

The family suggests memorials be to community outreach service, Freedom Fellowship Church, 8410 Hunsley Road, Canyon, TX 79015; or in memory of T.J. Harper to Bob Chester Scholarship Fund, WTAMU Foundation, WTAMU Box 60766, Canyon, TX 79016-0001.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
