Sybil was the daughter of Issac Newton Smitherman and Lulu A. Smitherman. She was the wife of Frederick (Pete) L. Bruns. She was the mother of Mary Lacy, Carl W. Bruns and Frederick Bruns.
She was a receptionist at Crawford Memorial Hospital and Edds Clinic in Van Buren. She was a member of the Eastern Star, a volunteer of Summit Medical Center Auxillary and the Red Cross. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, F.L. "Pete" Bruns and a son, Frederick C. Bruns; her parents, Issac Newton Smitherman and Lulu A. Tucker Peel Smitherman; sisters, Edith Peel Davis, Sue Smitherman Furrow, Maggie Smitherman Bailey, Effie Smitherman West; brothers, Rufus Peel and Issac Newton Smitherman.
Graveside service was 10:00 A.M. Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home with Dr. Scott Maze officiating.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Lacey; 6 grandchildren, Kenny, Butch, and Brad Trent, Kay Neal, Mary Merechka, and Amy Furr; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren all of Van Buren.
She is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Carl W. and Daisy Bruns of Van Buren, AR; three grandchildren, Karla Booth of Edmond, OK, Lulu Bruns of Van Buren, Carl W. Bruns II of Fayetteville, AR; 5 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
